Third Party Models

What is the general stance on third party models? There are a handful of known companies out there that create models that are obviously supposed to be alternative models for 40k, how do most tournaments view those? When I'm looking to save some cash, it can help quite a bit, especially if the models are good as well.

As long as it's reasonably close no one is going to care. Although you won't be able to use them at a GW store.
