I don't remember where my prospective 1000 point lists were hovering themselves, I think the only list of mine that would have been potentially been hit by this might have been my desert rats brits which lets see.

HQ, Free Observer, 2 obligatory squads at near full size, 2 small vet squads + bren carriers for each (4 dice), 1 light mortar, 1 HMG, 1 Boys AT Rifle, 1 Crusader I. 14 dice. yeah. this one would have been hit by the penalty and it wasn't even designed to be abusive.

So what happens if you have 13 units and 12 dice? 1 unit just sits there? IDK if that would work. I only ask because I am sure someone will show up with more than 12 units.

Actually this is something that the guys on WWPD have been talking about with respect to this 12 dice limit because it DOES screw over certain factions pretty badly (Brits with their free FO and the Soviets with their free Inexperienced squad). Their counterargument to this hard 12 unit limit is that you can bring more than 12 units but you can only ACTIVATE 12 units a turn.

I've never played the game and I don't have all the army books but I don't understand how this "screws" the other armies. If they get something for free then their 11 other units should be stronger than a comparable army that needed to spread those points over 12 units.

To me, this order dice limit is like the model cap limit that the old LOME system had. You could have a points limit and a model cap limit.

What it means is that certain armies are forced to use 4 of their dice on compulsory choices as compared to 3 dice for other armies.

For example, does my desert brit list up at the top look abusive? It's 1000 points and it's penalized by that rule.

As far as min maxing units to get more order dice, those units are easier to kill and pin and possibly run from failed moral tests. I will play probably no matter what that being said, I think it hurts certain armies over others. I have played many games and run tournaments in Milwaukee and have not had an issue with time because of order dice. It is because someone plays slow. Slow players will play slow whether they have 12 or 17 dice in the bag.

It is also a suggestion from Warlord. You are able to run the tournament however you choose.

yeah, from what I was reading on WWPD this rule was a knee jerk reaction from Allessio from someone running a 20 die army at some tournament in the UK with a relative newbie as a TO>

My Red Devils list I'll be running is 13 Orders...but the 13th is free FO, I could always drop it, or you could play more than 12 units, but you can only activate 12 in a turn..a unit who doesn't get an activation dice just gets automatic down order..

Ok SO, The name is Matt Bartley, and I am going to be coming to your little bolt action! tourny. I'll be bringing Russians. I am still fairly new to the game but wanted something fun to do on Sunday and have models. NOW, I have NO idea what style list I'm going to be running so thats still way up there but just to confirm, we are doing the 12 dice limit per army?
The Pen is Mightier then the Sword, but you must keep a sword handy for when the pen runs out of ink.

That is correct Matt, 12 dice limit, no more than 12 units max!

I would totally get in on this, but there's no way I could get an army painted in time.

I've had fun the times I've played BA.

WW2 Armies paint fast! I painted my whole 1000 point army over my Christmas Vacation (about a week). Go for it!

Man,

I wish I would have known sooner and I wouldn't have agreed to enter the 40K team tournament. If this is going to be on the events list next year, I will definitely be in. Having run 2 Bolt Action Tournaments out here in the PNW, I can say without a doubt, the 12 dice limitation is a very good thing. Keeps the turn sequence to a reasonable amount of time and does a whole lot to get rid of the min/maxing. Which I am sad to report seems to be coming from the 40K crowd who have picked up on Bolt Action. :x

Good luck with the event.
