WAB Blues?

Postby prion2001 » Wed Jan 30, 2013 3:08 pm

It's been quite on here of late so I thought I'd see what folks are up to. With the demise of WAB I was wondering if there are other systems people have been playing with and whether any are an easy transition for a WAB player like me? I know WAB has worked for tournaments so not sure if that is the case for most other historical rulesets.

While I'm asking for adivce what are peoples thoughts on SAGA? I saw recently (I'm behind on my WI subscription reading) that they have an Arab faction. I've always liked Arabic/Muslim models but balked at painting up a huge force. SAGA seems like a nice sized game, kinda like The Hobbit SBG.

I've heard nothing but good things about Saga. That said, I've been spending my time playing Hail Caesar. I also picked up Deus Vult from FireForge - yet to get a game in of this new Crusader rule set.

I just heard about the Deus Vult rules. Something I may have to look at with my interest in doing an Arab/Islamic force.

I've had late 1st Century BC Romans for a long while that I am likely to paint up this Summer season. While just painting these guys up will be a lot of fun, I was hoping to use them in some games. Much to my dismay, WAB has been shut down.

What are you folks using instead? Is there a Chicagoland group that runs Historical games regularly? I'm really looking for antiquity, not medieval gaming.

Thanks!

Our group plays out of Cicero, where we just wrapped our Ancients campaign. http://plasticlegionsblog.freeforums.org/

If you can make it out to Adepticon, there will be Ancients played each of the 4 days. Would be a good chance to hook up with some of the local (and not so local) players.
