Well, I've been on vacation for a week with only sporadic internet access. To give the impression I did more in Maine than swim, boat, and watch The Red Green Show, I figured I'd put up the latest on the Romans.

Image
The whole (almost) of the painted army: three of four Legion units, one of two units of Archers, and two stands (out of four units/twelve stands) of Auxilia. There is also one of two stands for my unit of Scorpions painted, but not pictured. I'll add some pics of those at the end of the post.

Image
The latest Legion unit.

Image
Image
Archers. I need to basecoat the strips on the last stick before they get glued to a stand.

Image
Image
Auxilia - in the same state as that last stick of Archers.

Image
Scorpions - one stand of two I need to do. These are going to prove irritating - the legs on the gunners are cast very thin on both strips I got (in fact the reason the other isn't done is one gunner is broken off at the knees; I'm still trying to decide whether to order or ask for a replacement or try to repair it) and they will probably end up very brittle.

So I have a bit over five of the thirteen units complete. I have one stand of Scorpions, three and a third units of Auxilia, one unit of Archers, one unit of Legion, two units of cavalry, and the two commanders (a total of three figures on horse) remaining.

Apparently I ordered a 1k Hun army yesterday. How odd.

That'll teach me to wander around Baccus' site clicking semi-random buttons.

I've taken better pictures than I've previously posted here:

Heavy Cavalry

Also, my Huns are in - but more on that later.

My first unit of cavalry, ready for basing.
Image

Any thoughts/C&C on the horses? The only army I painted for Warmaster Fantasy was my Skaven, so this is actually the first cav unit I've painted for Warmaster (or anything else, come to think of it).

Also, while picking up more craft sticks at Micheal's, I came across these:
Image

The medium size is almost exactly Warmaster sized (20mmx39mm to be exact), and the bag was only $2.99 for 42 mediums and a bunch of the large and small sizes. A pretty good deal, I thought.

Those Woodies look like a great deal. How does the thickness compare to the MDF bases? If they are not close I may get a buch of Woodies and start from the begining with them. If close I will use them once I run out of MDF ones.

Painting looks great, as ususal. Im trying to find time to get the Britons out. I have been so busy, nothing is geting done. I have Dust and Malifaux I need to cracking on also. I hope that come NOvember we will be moved and I will have my own room where I can spread out and get things organized. Then I can assembly line them.

Keep up the good work, seeing your work always moves me to get my stuff started.

Baccus' bases are 2mm; GF9's are 3mm. The Woodsies are a bit over 1.5mm. So close enough to interchange with Baccus stuff, but significantly thinner than GF9 bases.

Another unit of Auxilia done.
Image

That means I have 1 Legion, 2 Auxilia, 1 Heavy Cav, and 1 Archer unit left, plus two commanders.

I think I'll properly base everything I've finished before I move on to the next unit though.

Gives a good idea of how far I have to go. Of course it's only now I realize that one of the Archer stands is backwards in the picture...

More stuff which is stuff.

All my Legionaries are done - 4 units worth. On to the various remaining Auxilia.
Image

Also a look at my test strip of Huns, which turned out nicely, IMO, though the pics don't seem to agree...Image
ImageOn the other hand my monitor seems to be showing them at something like 5 times life size, so maybe that's a factor.

heh. I haven't seen you for a while. These days I've been working on painting flames of war stuff in addition to taking a class at CoD.

You are correct, the blown up pictures of the Huns dont seem to do them justice. Still not bad. Better than what I have done, which is zilch, zip, nada. Wait I take that back, I bought some popcicle sticks to mount the strips of men on while I paint them. Haha :D :D

Dropzone stuff is in, and boy is it sexy!

Find some fresh from the box pics here while I get a real review organized. While I've not read through the rules in detail, the book looks well layed out and produced and is visually attractive. The models are astounding. While there are some flaws in the castings, they are for the most part in areas I'd expect them, sharp and thin areas. Interestingly these areas are also free of excessive detail so they'll be easy to resculpt. Well planned.

The first half of the rview is up here. The second half (the rules) will come soon, once I've digested them a bit more.
