The new Armies of Antiquities

In the grim darkness of the past?

Postby socalwarhammer » Thu Dec 08, 2011 4:45 am

As long as there are players, I think WAB will survive. It may not have AoA anytime soon. But who really knows. It seems that Warhammer Historicals cant keep anyone in place to give any type of continuity. I am just really happy because I scored the last Adepticon (blocked) room rate available. Wow!

Marketing doesn't mean close-out.

I picked up Kampfgruppe Normandie at half off as well, and there are a couple books planned for that too with playtesters out there....

I have to agree with Aaron here. I picked up Gladiator and Waterloo...probably never would've at full price. And, when car dealers have an end of year clearance sale on last years' models, we don't all automatically assume they are discontinuing that line of cars! Do we?

Besides, this is no longer a question of if nor when. Warhammer Historical has released it:

I will be ordering a copy.

So Rich...what books/lists are we allowed to use for AC X?

Pat, you are in luck...there is a Pyrrhic list.

Matt...early enough?

:D

I am totally stoked. Are the events coordinators considering bumping the army points up to 2500 in light of the new points costs of AoA? I think now that AoA is the standard for WAB2, it would be appropriate for Adepticon to respond in kind. But I can do whatever...I just want to play.

P.S. I feel like a total idiot for doubting what Martin stated 6 months ago...that AoA would probably be out around Christmas or the New Year. So I will not doubt him again. See you all at Adepticon, I know I am excited about all the new armies we should see being played.

I'm not one of the coordinators but as this book has literally just been released and as is standard for GW these days, there was no prior mailings or hype about this on their websites so we don't have copies yet and I may be the first one in the adepticon group to actually get the book in my hands. Once I do get it, I will let those in charge take a good look at it.

The new AoA book will be legal to use. I'll need to update the rules package to included the new lists. The tricky part will be integrating 2800 point armies (see below) into victory point games - but I have a few ideas to resolve that issue. In any case, anyone using an AoA list will be required to email me their army roster before Adepticon.

As has been said, the new book utilises a new points system which is consistent across all lists but not compatible directly with the supplement lists. You can do any of the following:
a) use existing supplements only as already intended, with or without ABC
b) use AoA only at 2800 points
c) use both existing supplements @ 2000 points and AoA at 2800 points, which will give close enough armies to keep most people happy. If you do this I suggest using only AoA lists which do not appear in supplements.

Cheers

So...why make it hard on yourself Rich? There are 100 army lists in AoA v2. Why not just say the only legal book is AoA v2? Are you looking to make this a transition year and next year be AoA v2 (or whatever supplements that have come out by then) only?

All of the old army books will remain legal. There is far too little time to review AoA to see what it covers (or more importantly, does not cover).

Rich,

I just had a good look at AoA...you might want to look at it in detail before allowing the new (AoA) to be mixed in the the past supplements. The AoA does appear to have all of the armies of previous supplements without some of the bias that was done with some of the in-period supplements.

Not complaining, just trying to relay what my first impressions are. I think AoA will serve as a fine Tournament and Campaign set of army lists for a long time to come. See you in April.

My copy arrived today (in less than a week... not bad). Points are adjsuted a lot as well as army %s, etc. at least for the lists I quickly looked over. Berber spearman are 12 points in AoA vs 7 in El-Cid for example. I am pretty pot commited to running my berbers from El-Cid at least for Adepticon. Mixing AoA and current supplements might be tough, especially as not everyone is going to have AoA at this juncture....
My 2 Cents.

I am ordering today for our group. Only 5 this time (when WAB v2 came out I ordered 14!). :(

We'll see how long it takes...but I certainly hope it is a week like yours Mike!
