[Necro] New Player; New Gang

Postby Spectrar Ghost » Thu Sep 08, 2011 9:53 pm

Currently working on putting together my Van Saar gang, based on Cadian Plastics, and am looking for feedback. The idea is that the gang is ex-PDF or ex-IG, so right now the equipment is pretty standardized.

Here's my current plan.

Van Saar Gang List: "Rolling Thunder" 940crd.

Leader: Lieutenant Barth "Teach" Gorowitz 185
Knife, Chainsword, Plasma Pistol, Laspistol

Heavy: Gunnery Sgt. Sebastion "Sunny" Palmers 145
Knife, Plasma Gun, Laspistol

Ganger: Corporal Graeme Diehl 90
Knife, Lasgun, Laspistol

Ganger: Corporal Bruno Martz 90
Knife, Lasgun, Laspistol

Ganger: Corporal Nero Kasrholm 90
Knife, Lasgun, Laspistol

Ganger: Corporal Remus Jowseki 90
Knife, Lasgun, Laspistol

Ganger: Corporal Uriel Danforth 90
Knife, Lasgun, Laspistol

Juve: Private Lonny Partz 40
Knife, Laspistol

Juve: Private Quentin Plaice 40
Knife, Laspistol

Juve: Private Inyo Pardee 40
Knife, Laspistol

Juve: Private Juno Watt 40
Knife, Laspistol

Is there anything missing? My options for HtH are pretty limited, of course, but it might be worth trading in a Juve so the remaining three can get Bludgeons?

WIll need to look closer, but at first blush it look okay. MOst staarting gangs look the same. Bodies over stuff is not a bad way to start.

You guys starting a league or what. I have both a Goliath and Arbites gang that has not been finished in over 10 years. Getting a group together might be a imputeaus to finish them.

There's been talk. Nothing concrete, yet, but I'm putting together some tiles of CoD and Planetstrike terrain for the purpose.

Will you be around Saturday for the WM Tourney? We can talk about plans then...

BTW, stumbled across a neat gang management site yesterday.

Edit: As far as I can tell, what Chad thinks about Arbites is unprintable. Though it could just be what Chad thinks about Arbites with Jim's dice...

No I wont, have to work. Kinda thought you guys were still in the planning phase.

My toughts on arbites is probably in the same vein as Chad's, just not as violent. They are something that should be GM only, but hey they are not as bad as the Spyers or Ma and Pa Spyer. Not saying I would run them, just throwing it out there

Who says I'm violent?!! I'm gonna beat the living.....

Actually, I was talking with Tom, and we may be starting a campaign here soon. He's got about four players total for his group, so we would have a great number of players as well as potentially more players for historical games and other specialist games. Maybe legends of the old west?

Pvts. Pardee and Watt are coming, but I need more helmetless heads.

Terrain so far.

Does anyone have preferences for walkway widths and ceiling heights? I'm thinking 2.25" walkways, or 2" with a wall on one side, and probably 2" ceilings. Are there any tall/bulky figs I should account for by raising this?

More stuff.

Skyshield (Furled), and Shrine/Basilica mishmash. The part in front of the doors is a balcony to go under the door in the second floor.

Color Test.

Cpl. Nero Kasrholm. He looked like he needed a moustache. It also looks like he has a bit of a lazy eye from this angle, but thet should improve with practice.

Well, a couple of my gangers got to the point where I just needed to give them CC weapons instead of guns, so I converted up some gangers with swords. My Juves' knives have an annoying tendancy to break off the hand due to the small contact point, so I ended up pinning the swords on with 1/32" brass rod. Also converted a shotgun trooper, mostly to see if it worked. The SM Scout shotgun has a wider hand spacing than the Cadians, so I had to use GS to spread the arms a bit. The swords are also from the plastic SM scouts.

What are opinions on Scavvies as a gang? I've got a ton of Skaven spares; Regular Skaven as Scavvies, Giant Rats as Scavvie Dogs, and Rat Ogres as Scalies. I'd need to get some WFB Ghouls and Zombies for, um, Ghouls and Zombies. Doing a co-op game against a Plague Zombie Horde would be interesting too, so dual use there.

I've done up a few Scavvies. They're somewhat shorter than guardsmen, but not too much. Used some spare Lasguns as stand-ins for the Autoguns Skweeltoth and Gnawswell are toting.

My Scalies, Raargh and Graaah, will both use the cannon arm of the Rat Ogre kit. Raargh has a Scatter Cannon, so he'll most likely use it stock, or have a few bits of stuff sticking out. Graaah has a spear gun, and will get some cut off spears hanging out of his cannon.

I'm interested in people's opinions. Do the models work as Scavvies? Will Rat Ogres, which are probably too big for a 2W model, be a problem? It seems if anything they'll be harder to hide. I've chosen to leave the skaven iconigraphy on the models, with the excuse it's "tribal". Should I remove it? Also am I talking into the wind? It's sometimes hard to tell.
