Card Buildings

Postby Spectrar Ghost » Sun Jan 10, 2010 4:22 pm

Good News! I've scanned all the card buildings!
Now we can just print, paste, and cut more.

If anyone would like me to email these files to them, PM me.

I'm in the process of measuring the roofs to make more from plasticard. I will add the dimensions when I finish.

So, after investigating the scaling problems scanning created, I've discovered that my scanner scaled the taller buildings down by several percent, and the shorter buildings up by nearly 10%.

This leaves me with a quandry. Should I keep the digital files for ease of replication, and live with the scaling differances, or should I go the route of having physical copies (the copy function on my printer, oddly, did not have this issue when I produced replacements for the parts I was missing) and just copy the copies if I need more?

The good news is that the first roof I built from the dimensions of the original pieces works well for those parts. So direct copies (or spare card parts) I can fabricate roofs for in ~15min/roof.

While the scaling problem may be annoying, a copy of a copy may be worse. Im just glad to have access to the buildings again. I also have the Ork buildings if you want to copy those. I may have some other types of buildings they did if you are interested.

Added measurments for Original and Scanned versions.

@Slarti - I'd be happy to scan your Ork buildings. Are they entirely card? It's difficult to tell from the pictures I can find, but it looks like they are "Tab A into Slot B" construction? Having all these scanned in one place seems like a good idea to me.

One thing about Orkitecture is it is so simple in terms of external detail that I could probably design 3-4 templates myself, and really crank it out. It would be less versitile than Imperial architecture, but probably several times as fast to build. One thought though - how many stories do Ork buildings usually run? I would think 3-4 tops?

I literally have like 200 of these buildings - I can bring some up on the 16th if you need them.

I like the idea for the buildings especially because of the campaign.

Heck, it would good to have a supply of these buildings available for Adepticon's event.

Oh, don't mistake me, slot A/ tab B is fine, I was just thinking if they would be significantly harder, on the scanning or making end, to do because of it.
