I thought the venue was ideal. The hotel was great. The lighting in the room was great. I liked having LOTR in a separate room with the specialist games. I loved the free parking and relatively cheap hotel food. The only downside is, as others noted, was the space between the Specialist Hall and the Main Hall. However, that really wasn't a deal-breaker for me.

Kudos to the change in venue.

I actually disagree with this. Almost every person I spoke to who played in the Lilac room stated that they liked that they could actually speak without yelling. I yelled anyway but that's just because I like to be loud (and I helped run the event the first day).

I ran some demos on Sunday and I was thankful that the room was rather quiet, my voice was (and still is) destroyed by Sunday morning. If I had to yell over everyone in the hall, more than I was already yelling to keep the game exciting, I don't think I would have been audible by the third demo. I'm not going to say that it would be awful to be in the main hall, but I enjoyed having a seperate room.[/quote]

You're right. I was helping Jeremy with some Necromunda Demos on Friday and it was a lot better to not have to yell over people. I just felt that a lot of people weren't aware of the secondary room for all the demo games. Maybe the solution would be to have the rooms closer together. But then I assume the main ball room is the largest so we can't use the back ballroom as the main hall.

Man, I'm glad I don't have to organize this stuff.

I'll echo everyone else's comments... I loved the venue even though it was a little farther for me to drive.

I didn't even realize there was another room. I should have put two and two together when I couldn't seem find where they were playing in the main hall.

Excellent venue choice.
- Free parking is a prime consideration, especially with in/out privileges.
- "No outside food or drinks" was "incredibly loosely enforced" which was much appreciated.
- Harry Cary's seemed to be like a great place to eat, the dinner I had there Saturday was excellent.
- A mall withing walking distance, great places to eat, see movies, and even bowl while drinking (is there any other way?) in the same mall parking lot.
- Forgot your toothbrush? Lost your luggage? Well, at least there's a Target right next door.

So, I don't think you'll find a better venue, all things considered. Options for eating and shopping were plentiful, and you can range in price from the incredibly reasonable to the incredibly expensive. It's a place where you can bring your non-40K wives and let them hit Oakbrook while you play -- and while you grit your teeth at the idea of her spending money in Macy's, you can just remind yourself how much your toy soldiers cost.

<------ unabashedly taking credit for nominating the venue around April of last year and kudos to the guys on being able to secure it!

Only downside for me is Acon fell the same time as my kids springbreak, so instead of driving to Lombard and kickin butt; I was getting my butt kicked on a 17hr drive back to Chicago from Myrtle Beach, SC.

There's always next year, you're warned!!

This was just posted on another forum but I will list it here because it seemed important.

It was announced numerous times about picking up trash and keeping the hall clean.

The problem was there seemed to be a total of about 2 trash cans in the hall. I know that I personally walked around quite a bit looking for a trash bin.

ya, all you people not playing specialist games didnt get to mingle with the black tie event. it was significantly less smelly and many more hour glass shapes :D

main suggestion: sell those custom glasswares in the souviener stands!!!

I dont know what kind of starting budget you have for that sort of thing, but from research for a fundraiser, it is ~$2-4 at cost, then sell then for around $6. I think i speak for alot of people, those things were NICE.

again, though, the issue is fronting the money which is considerable in this instance. im more jealous of the winners getting those then the rest of the other prizes they won!

The WFB contingent would be exceedingly happy to be segregated.

Top notch venue.

Although a minor detail, I was personally very fond of the hair dryers NOT attached to the wall in the hotel room. This was a huge aid to finishing up all of my last minute painting.


We all know you used the hair dryer to help set Those wonderful curls of yours.

I thought the venue was great. It was easy to get to and very nice. I liked the fact the LotR tournament was in a different room. I enjoyed seeing the vendor hall expanded from last year. They had a great diversity of what they offered. I personally would like to see the 2010 Adepticon at the same place. Thank you to the council and staff for running a great event. I will be back next year.

I loved the hotel.

I didn't think the event rooms were too far apart at all.

Walk just past the elevators, around the corner and you're there. If you timed it, it would probably take all of a minute and a half to walk there.

Walking through the Black and White Ball did make it more interesting though.

Chris, you went back Sunday? Lucky! I should have gone too after my how that day went......anyway.....

I will add that, in a perfect world, there'd be room for the Specialist stuff (demo, tournie, and otherwise) in the main hall. However, I know that's not really feasible, so I will say that:

A) Attendees should be made aware of the Specialist stuff at Registration. If there are openings in any tournaments, do what they do at Games Day and make an announcement. Let people know there's more stuff than just the main hall and hand out a map with everything laid out.

B) Improve Signage. This is, personally, my biggest sticking point about the venue. The signs for the other rooms/events were tiny and not in a contrasting background & text layout. I didn't even notice there were signs until Saturday. I'm sure some people missing them completely.

Other than that, I really enjoyed the Westin.

Awesome venue. The food was reasonably priced, attractively presented, and actually VARIED from day-to-day, which was great. However, the hotel needs to do a better job of taking our money during "rush" times - Sunday got fairly tricky, as the one cashier ran out of singles repeatedly.

Lighting was great. Rooms were nice, clean, and modern. Temperature was actually consistent and comfortable, which is a rarity at large tournaments. Water was plentiful, and easy to obtain. Space was good - enough room between tables to move around, and avoid bumping butts with your rearward neighbors.

FREE BUSINESS CENTER ROCKED. I don't know how many people were even aware of it, but two free computers w/USB ports, connected to a fast, color duplexing copier/printer was a huge help for me.

The venue was top notch this year!!!

The rooms were fantastic. Flat screen TV FTW!!!!!!!!!!!

For next year can we lower the mic volume cause that was plain annoying for the WFB Champ players since we had nothing to do with the team tournament!

And I agree that you guys should inform people at check in that there are open spots in other tournaments so all of the games can get exposure from inquiring minds.

And next year for souvaniers- May I suggest Big Glass MUGS with ADEPTICON on them with the symbol. Those would look freking righteous!!!!!!!

Also- even though we had to drive from NEW ORLEANS! It was all completely worth it. 17 in a car sucked though! :P
