Abby's body guard

For any experienced CHaos Marine players to field here.....

What are some good escort units?/ What units have you had success with joining with Abby?

I dont like the idea of him wandering across the board alone, too easy to drop.

I dont like the termies, as they are not fearless, and I am paranoid about a lost melee, or psyker squad routing them off the board

I like the idea of possed with M.O.T. for the 4+ invul. but cost is high.

I like the T.Sons also for the 4+ invul but slow and purposeful defeats the purpose of him barreling into combat., also cost.

Possibly Plaguemarines for some survivability, but you would have to leap from cover to cover.

Oblit deepstriking, but could sit in reserves for three turns, and not be able to charge till the following turn.

I will not get Land raiders.

Those are ny thoughts, but if anyone has ideas or thinks something like "the termies arent bad because not being fearless hardly ever is an issue" or "I have had a lot of success with this escort for these reasons"
I would really appreciate it.

Any other units that I have not listed are fine, I just dont know of any as I have only played a handful of games as Chaos.

Thanks in advance

Dont worry about non fearless units as long as Abby is with the termies they are fearless. That said however I usually stuff him in landradier with berzerkers. I a really nasty unit and then he can disembark and go one way while the berzerkers put the hurt on something else

I've seen that combo too - with bezerkers in a land raider he's nasty.

If you're not going the land raider I'd suggest the plague marine route.

If an IC that is fearless joins a squad that is not fearless, the unit is treated as non-fearless, so they could break. It seems silly seeing Abbadon and his hardened termies break due to morale, but thats how the codex is written.

As far as the Land Raider, I am sure it works nice, but I am starting plans on an Adepticon list, and Abby + Squad + Dark Eldar Target....er Land Raider seems a bit much at 1000. Thats why the no go, now at 2000 sure, but not quite at 1000.

The hard reality of it is that Abbey walking, with or without an escort, is a huge waste of points. He will never get to where he is needed most and his unit will never shoot enough to justify their use. Abbey has one design and that is in a Land Raider. You might call the LR DE bait, but a walking Abbey with anything is just asking to be Lashed and Demolisher cannoned right into the dead pile.

Seriously there is nothing he can walk up with that will be worth it.

I was looking at fielding him too.

i was going to say that it does not say in his profile that he give fearless to any unit he joins. So unless there is a FAQ on that or i over looked it in the book then unless the unit has fearless he will run with them if they fail a morale test.

I know you said you dont field a land raider, but to me thats the best way to go. You can run a unit of 8 guys with him like greg said with the bezerkers, but my personal favorite now is the slaanesh lighting claw terminator champions. I got to run them in a tournament and wow they can really tear up an army. so you have 4 terminator champions and him in a hit squd and just expet alot to die.

you figure 20 lighting claws attacks with re-rolls to wound and his 7-11 attacks on an assault will pretty much kill anything. Even with invulnerable saves your looking at not having much to respond left to fight you. With both of them at 2 diferent initives you figure his with the str 8 with re-rolls to wound at int 6 and their 20 at int 5 you stand a very good chance of dusting anything on the table.

The only bad thins is fighting something with a higher int than you. that was my only down fall as i lost 3 out of 5 termies against a int 6 blood angle HQ.

Making him walk or deepstrike takes away from any effectiveness he can bring to the table. This is just my opinion.

Go with the Plague Marines, they help against assaults with their blight grenades and are T4/5. Plus you can stick 2 meltas in the squad for more killy before the assault.

Consider Abby with Oblitz. It seems like a lot of points, but both the oblitz and abby benefit from being together. In comming anti-oblit round, nah, Abby will take it (most s8ap2 guns typically don't have high volume of shots). Abby is Eternal and a 2+/4++, let him take the hits as he walks forward with the oblitz

Once something juicy comes in range, consider breaking Abby off so he can solo the unit and the obliz can go take out another.

That's not a bad idea. I think only a demolisher cannon would give that unit pause. I think this would go well with a couple of fast movers with meltaguns to help open Land Raiders before they assault the Abbey+Oblit combo.

Yeah the Abby and oblit combo does work well. My teammate ran that at BOLScon for the team tourney, but we were lucky they came in turn 2 every game.

I have been playtesting a little and running a squad of possesed tzeentch makes a nice unit. I start front and center and run right at the enemy. I avoid cover since I have 4+ in the open and its amazing the shots this unit can handle. With no fear of being out of cover, I run every turn and move max distance possible. The unit "fans" out and ideally if any of the possesed make contact with a unit, the enemy unit is forced to pile on in to Abby. If I roll fleet or furious charge, I have broken Abby off to go his own way once turn 3 hits. I have yet to have a game with this unit where Abby hasnt made contact and started killing things by turn 3.

To be fair....running him in the open has its draw backs as when I fought my brother he jawsed Abby while cowering in the corner at the bottom of turn 2 and Abby was gone.

Also....while testing Adepticon team lists.....psychic choir plus mind war dropped GUO and Abby in successive turns. So if anyone is looking for a good head hunter combo Eldar and guard.
