1000 point Kan Wall

Postby Zero_Cool » Mon May 09, 2011 9:33 pm

So we have a 1000 point 40K tourny coming up and I am looking to start up a new Ork list. So here we go:

Big Mek - KFF, PK
20 Shoota Boyz - 2 Rokits, PK Nob
20 Shoota Boyz - 2 Rokits, PK Nob
20 Slugga Boyz - PK Nob (run, Forest, run)
Deff Dread - 2x DCCW, armor plates
3 Killa Kans - 3 Grotzooka
3 Killa Kans - 3 Grotzooka

So...what do you think? It's got 4+ cover all over the place, 60 boyz and 12 str 6 small blast templates. The dread is in there just to run across the table and draw some crazy attention to itself.

I could drop the dread and look to find room for a unit or two of Lootas if that would be better?

Yes, drop the dread for some lootas would be better. Unless you want the dread for modelling purposes. It does look cool.

What Fred said. You need long-range suppression fire. I'd drop the PK off the mek too. As an IC, he'll get singled out in combat anyway and probably die before he swings. It's not like he has any armour.

Thanks guys. The PK on the mek is a holdover from the battlewagon list so I will have to build and paint a new one.

Dropping the PK and the dread frees up 140 points so if I can squeeze 10 more points I could throw in 10 Lootas.

Run those 2x5 or a big 10 Ork unit?

-Or-

Run 1 smaller unit of Lootas and switch in some Rokkits for Grotzookas?

I'm a big fan of 2x5 rather then one big squad of 10. They are less threatening that way, and you'll be able to shake/stun more vehicles.

2x5 is better. If you need to take out one target, you can put them all on it. You lose less to a failed morale test. You can split fire as needed too.

Chris,

Yes the Dread is not going to be very useful cool model but since he is not scoring he is not really worth it.

Lootas are the way to go! Squads of 5 are nice I agree with Brian.

What about the Killa Kans - stick with grotzookas or switch in rokkits?

Keep units of 3 or go with 3 units of 2?

What about 3 units of 3 and only 2 units of Boyz?

What about 2x2 with Rokkits and 1x2 with zookas?

Something like:

Big Mek - KFF
20 Shoota Boyz - 2 Rokkits, PK Nob
20 Shoota Boyz - 2 Rokkits, PK Nob
18 Slugga Boyz - PK Nob (run, Forest, run)
3 Killa Kans - 3 Grotzooka
3 Killa Kans - 3 Grotzooka
5 Lootas
5 Lootas

-or-

Big Mek - KFF
20 Shoota Boyz - 2 Rokkits, PK Nob
20 Shoota Boyz - 2 Rokkits, PK Nob
15 Slugga Boyz - PK Nob (run, Forest, run)
2 Killa Kans - 2 Grotzooka
2 Killa Kans - 2 Rokkits
2 Killa Kans - 2 Rokkits
5 Lootas
5 Lootas

I think I like the last one.

5 Lootas

This in my opinion this is a better list. I have never ever been disappointed from the Zooka but can't say the same from the rokitts.

Leave the lootas in to kill some vehicles or slow them down and the zookas target longfangs, dev squads, units out in the open. They can even go for light transport vehicles I have blow up a few.

1 less kill point is always good too!
