Warhammer 40K Championship Draft Construction Rules

Postby Matthias » Wed Sep 10, 2014 3:43 pm

Update: Our intention was for this event to allow unrestricted Allies, yet it was not completely clear in the first version of the draft rules. This has been amended.

With AdeptiCon 2015 planning in full swing, we have turned our attention to ironing out the army construction rules for our major Warhammer 40K events. Below you will find a draft version for the Warhammer 40K Championship. The goal was to keep the rules as simple and succinct as possible while embracing the open nature of Warhammer 40K 7th Edition. That said, you will notice a few restrictions built into the army construction rules, such as: Codex Detachments and Formations are considered unique and may not be duplicated, a small handful of Lords of War have been excepted from the event, Lords of War and Fortifications are limited to a single unit regardless of how many are available to your detachments...

As always, we are looking for constructive feedback concerning this format. If you have any questions or comments, please get in touch! Stay tuned for the Warhammer 40K Team Tournament Draft rules, scoring guidelines for both events and sample missions!

Please note, the Championship Draft rules have been amended:

For the purposes of this event, Allied Detachments may be chosen from the same Faction as your Primary Detachment. This effectively allows a Faction to ally with itself [i]

These updates are based on feedback received from the initial post. We agree that allowing unrestricted same faction alliance gives consideration to older codecies without direct access to "Codex Detachments". We understand that this is a change to the rules presented in the main rulebook but believe that it bridges the gap for older books until the entire codex library is brought in line with 7th edition.

Furthermore, we have intentionally left Ally Levels Unrestricted (for now). This was intentional from the start, but as a few astute readers pointed out was not entirely clear.

These rules are meant to be considered in tandem with the recently posted Adepticon Tactical Objective Cards (Draft). Many of the 40K events will leverage Maelstrom of War style missions in some form and those events will use these deck rules. As always, constructive feedback is encouraged.
