Reviving Warmaster

Okay, so far I have had some success promoting Epic with a regular meeting group for games. Now, I want to do the same for Warmaster.

So, why play Warmaster? Well, a number of reasons:

1. It is simple to play and I mean simple. The rules are easy to learn and master that allow you to develope the tactics.

2. The miniatures are easy to paint. Everyone thinks the opposite, but really they are easier to paint than the 28's and faster.

3. The game focuses on the units. When you compare the units, you look at the types (heavy infantry, light cavalry) and what are the best unit types to use against what.

4. The game is not dominated by characters, magic or magic items. Warmaster is a game about being a general. That general is you. When you look at a table with your Warmaster army on it, it will feel and look like you are in command of an army. You are not controlling a raiding force, you are commanding an army. I possess a 6000 point ork and goblin army. When I field it all, it numbers over 13000 troops.

There are more reasons why to play Warmaster depending on what you are looking for. It is a game you should try. All I need to figure out is what day of the week to meet.

I've always wanted to try this game. How many people still play it? Seems like Epic has a huge underground followingm, but haven't heard the same for warmaster.

Also, besides the GW site, how easy is the stuff to get? Are there some good e-bay deals?

There are some decent ebay deals out there.

The easiest armies to find stuff for are the ones that had the starter boxes.

Those armies are Tomb Kings, High Elves, Dwarves, Empire, Chaos and one other I'm brain farting on.

We have a few people who play. I've got several 4000 point armies myself. My Dwarves and Tomb Kings are painted and my High Elves and Chaos are in progress and have been so for a long time :)

That being said, if you do want to give the game a shot, I can show up at the bunker most any days to give you a shot and if you like it and want to go Tomb Kings, I have a bunch of spare blisters :P

Orks were the last army.

There are actually more players out there than you think, we need to get them to come out and play games. On Monday May 2, I will be teaching a staff member how to play Warmaster. You are welcome to join us.

You have inspied me to work on my Empire army. What is a typical game? 1000 pts? 2000 pts?

I believe 2k is standard, though 1k is perfectly acceptable. 1k is all I currently have (well, 1k and 500pts of hangers-on).

Note to self: figure out the cost to get to 2k. No crying this time.

heh. I'm at 4k in 4 armys myself (high elves, chaos, tomb kings and dwarves.) Of course only the TK and the Dwarves are fully painted or mostly there (I'm looking at you sphinxes and skull chuckas.)

1-3k are usually the size games you see.
