Fantasy Championship

Postby Inquisitor Thantos » Sun Aug 01, 2010 3:58 pm

Please excuse this question if I'm asking it too early but is there a general idea as to what point value the Warhammer Fantasy Championship is going to be held at?
With the release of the 8th edition, there has been discussion about a general increase in the point value of tournament games.
This past Adepticon I didn't have my army all finished up in time for the convention and wanted to try and get a head start this year.

Thanks!

the better forum to post this question right now is IWFB. Right now there is a debate going on right now on whether to go to 2400 or to go to 2200.

Really was hoping for 2500 this year myself :)

My games have been going fairly quickly in under 2 hours!

The big issue with the game size from what the debate at the bunker has been has mainly been comp based. The main reason that the 2200 point level is being bandied about is to try to limit some of the excesses. The biggest one that seems to keep getting bandied about in the anti-2400 point level arguments is that 2400 is the magic number that allows Empire players to field double steam tanks.

I just got into fantasy so I'm in the dark when it comes to understanding comp restrictions vs. abusive lists, (a harsh term I know), but I too was hoping for 2500 point limit, just so I could feel that wonderful two headed Tzeentch daemon.
Also, I think that to base such a big decision as the point restriction for a tournament on one or two specific builds is a little 'off'.
However, due to my inexperience, (especially not having faced two steam engines), I'll leave the final decision to those better informed than I am. :)

Honestly right now things are definitely completely up in the air as far as I know considering that 8e dropped what a month ago? I'm just a guy posing his own opinions and some basic info though. It would be easier for you though to register on the IWFB forums and ask there as well. www.iwfb.org is the place to go :)

Not in the discussion. But, after my game tonight fielding my demons....I hope they bring two steam tanks. I might be able to beat them. Not looking good otherwise.

I really believe 2k is the way to go, easily playable in less than 2 hours, fun to build lists. past 2k = let's trash start filling armies

Well, I talked a bit to Alex today and he confirmed that it will be UNDER 3000 points for sure so don't bother with more than 3 of a special or 2 of a rare :).

Other than that we're not sure yet for Saturday. I'm going to be running a few smaller tournaments at the bunker over the next couple months so we can see how things are shaking down. The first one is on September 4th and is 2000 points.

The link for that tournament.

Let me just say- Empire bringing 2x stanks doesn't annoy me more than a demon army.

Bring your stank and I'll bring the same old fluffy list I always use :D
