A qualifier on friday....then a finale on sunday?

So Insetad of being able to do diffrent games and events over the weekend- I have too dedicate 2 out of my 3 days to 40k?

Not at all.

The initial plans are to run a 4-round Championships event Friday. This event will include awards for all the typical categories save Overall/Champion. The top finishers (unknown number at this point - but most likely 8) will qualify for a 3-round finals event on Sunday for all the marbles. Anyone who qualifies will have any tickets they previously purchased for a Sunday event refunded (like the Gladiator).

The beta rules are being drafted up now - we hope to have them up by the middle of next month.

Given that event's current attendance - something needs to happen. Honestly, something should of happened last year, but by the time the numbers blew up we were well committed on staff, tables and hall layout. The splitting of the field was more about accommodating attendees than it was about creating a perfect event.

2011 will get the Championships back on track. In 2008 and 2009 the 40K Invitationals was decent enough solution to a finals-type event. Pure battle and a required top 10 finish in another GW Circuit event. Couldn't do that in 2010 - no Circuit. Can't do that in 2011 - the Circuit is too big and GW Is basically doing the Invitational in Las Vegas.

So we basically need to qualify from within. The format is nothing new at all. It's similar to the GTs of old really. Scoring, awards and all that will be different, but 7 games over 2 days....old hat really.

The Championships has just needed to be more than a 3-round event for a couple of years now.

Very happy to hear about the new championship format! Last year was a bit of a mess: 3 games really is not enough to crown a winner out of 120. 7 games sounds much more like it!

The entire schedule is being streamlined so events have common start and times. This should greatly increase your ability to plan a full weekend packed with wargaming madness.

Expect to see something change times and days, but everything you are used to playing in will be back plus some additional, new events.

@Elthniar: You won't get any complaints from me. I totally agree. The split into 2 fields happened at the last minute. We either had to accommodate the 100+ players that wanted to play on Sunday or tell them too bad - but no one thought is was a good model for going forward. Absolutely a 2010 anomaly. Won't happen again.

Oh I wasn't complaining about this year, I understand what had to be done to accommodate everyone and thought you guys did an excellent job given the last minute nature of everything. I was more complimenting this years approach than condemning last year's "anomaly". As usual, I can't wait for Adepticon: it gets better every year!

I heard that filming will be disallowed for Adepticon 2011. Is this correct? And is this only filming of specific games, for example, could a blogger walk around the hall and film the convention in general?

No way will they be banned.

If anything - there will be a bit added to the conduct policy about intentions and asking permission to film portions of games.

Video and video blogging is fantastic - no way would we want to limit that.

This is a good thing to hear, it allows people who don't want to be filmed the opportunity to avoid such a thing if they don't want to.
