IMPORTANT: Registration Closing Early

Postby Matthias » Wed Mar 10, 2010 4:11 pm

Due some recent malicious attacks on our web server, we have decided to close pre-registration early this year. We regret any inconvenience this may cause you. Weekend Badges and any remaining event tickets will be for sale at the registration table starting Thursday evening. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us at info@adepticon.org.

Has anybody's personal information been compromised as a result of the malicious attacks?

We have taken the steps needed to notify those affected. Orders placed since March 4th may be effected and only if you used the offline Credit Card option which amounted to less than 40 transactions. This option was enabled by the attacker and no information was compromised on paypal orders.

AdeptiCon staff have been personally calling individuals affected to explain the issue and have appreciated the understanding and patience. It certainly has been an inconvenience to all of us.

With the cart already scheduled to close anyway on March 20th AdeptiCon staff made the decision in light of this breach to close the webcart early. Remaining event tickets will be available to purchase onsite.

AdeptICon 2010 is going to be one heck of a time .. see everyone in a few weeks.

Personnaly i think all hackers should be shot and executed as a deterant to the others who think this kind of thing is acceptable. If was an overseas hacker well we have special long range missles for them too. I am sorry to hear that some idiot is trying to ruin our fun. You guys do so much work and to have it get messed up because some idiot thinks it funny is very sad and unfortunate. Maybe next year i can do some volunterring for you guys. I will talk with Chris when the next circuit tournament starts. See you at Adepticon.

It is important to keep in mind that AdeptiCon and the AdeptiCon webcart DOES NOT normally gather or store your credit card or any other sensitive information. All of our monetary transactions are handled through PayPal. Sadly, an exploit was run from the /cache folder which allowed someone to alter the payment modules which did temporary gather sensitive information as new orders were placed. Luckily we caught this quickly and have been working closely with PayPal, our webhost and everyone that placed an order in that short, compromised time.

The web cart has been triply-reinforced, but at this point it doesn't make any sense to bring it back on line until some serious testing can be done.

If your order was placed prior to March 4th - you have absolutely nothing to worry about. If you placed an order after that date, you no doubt have heard from us two or three times over. Any orders placed during that time are guaranteed and recorded. We will not be recharging you.

The Adepticon website says that you can register in person starting on Friday at 8am.

I'm confused, as here it is stated we can register on Thursday. :?:
