Questions about events

Postby knitemare » Fri Aug 28, 2009 7:23 pm

At adepticon 2009 there were a couple of specialist game tournaments (BFG, Blood Bowl, WAB singles and doubles) and I expect they will be back in 2010. There were demos for LotHS and LotOW and a bring and play for Aeronautica. Then, of course, there were some demos of the GW core games.

This year there will be tournaments for Flames of War and some other games as yet unannounced (Hordes, War Machine, Monsterpocalypes or something else). I assume that will not only draw people who only play those games, but people who have been interested in playing those games in a tournament setting.

My first question is, is there any plan to have a tournament or big game for LotHS or LotOW this year? My second question is, do you think the non-core GW game events will be impacted, attendance wise, by the GW core game tournaments AND the influx of new games? I kind of hope more people will take part in the non-core GW game events.

I wasn't able to make the Acon meeting at the bunker, but if anyone has an idea about how to draw more people to these events I would be happy to help out. If that means running an event, or helping run an event, I would obviously be happy to do that as well. Let me know what I can do.

(I'm already volunteering to help run the LotR singles event Friday, I want the rest of my weekend to be about other games.)

The non-core events have been well attended the past 2 years & I see no reason why they will not be again in 2010. The additional of FOW and PP will not only draw more people to Adepticon, but I hope also provide more folks willing to play the demo & bring and battle tables. Branching out of the GW shell also allows us to set up tables for a variety of games which have not played at Adepticon before.

To answer your first question: John (Old Coast) is getting ready for a High Seas campaign day on Sunday. He's about 80% certain, but I think a little coxing will make that 100%.

Knitemare - if you're fired up about Open gaming, would you want to squeeze an event into a Saturday night slot? That way you are still free for tournaments on Saturday and Sunday.

Jamie and I will be organizing the non-core (open gaming) area again this year. If anyone else is interested in running tables - be sure to PM one of us.

On Flames of War:

My associate is very interested in playing FoW at Adepticon. He nearly said, "HELL YA!" when I told him it was going to be there. He doesn't check the site often and was wondering if anyone knew what the point total for the tournament would be. I wants to start getting his army together now.

Thanks!

LotOW

I was also curious if anyone has stepped up to run a LotOW event yet? If not, I may be interested in running one.

You need to man, I think a large game like I did for LotHS would be cool, just do it ater all the big events so I could play!

Actually, I was thinking that it would be really cool to do on Friday or Saturday night. I don't know how late the halls stay open or how many people would sign up for a game that started at 9 or 10pm. If the time and space are available to me I will plan a game and then make decisions about whether or not it would be a bring your own posse sort of game.

I have an idea of what I would like to do, but I'll wait until I know whether or not I can add my event before I work too hard on it.

Last year Tim ran the High Seas castle group game starting at 6:00. Friday was well attended (10 out of 10 slots IIRC). Saturday was a bit off because the Ball blocked access to the hall.

When did LotR singles actually finish last year? It was scheduled to run to 6:30. Friday night after the singles would be a perfect time for Old West. The Gladiator might be done by then & you will have people finished with BFG/Epic, WAB and combat patrol.

6-10 should be enough time to play, any later than that & we need Jamie on board to lock up the hall.

Hank has the terrain for the 4x4 demo table that has come out the past few years. Will need a bit more terrain to fill out a big game table. Fortunatly, Hawgleg is finally re-launching the Arnica resin building product line. http://www.hawgleg.com/default.asp

I was also thinking about using some of the White Was City PDFs as templates for making buildings out of MDF and Plasticard. 6-10 would probably be fine. The final standings from the singles game were out around 6:30 I believe. I'm volunteering for the singles again this year. If it is intended to go that late or later, then maybe I could do it Saturday or convince someone to stick around until 11 and do a 7-11 game.

Since John will be running the LotHS on Sunday (Hopefully) Friday night sounds good after the LotR Singels event. I would just say do it from 7:30 - 10:30, That gives you some time between the LotR event finishing and people getting something to eat.

I would play in it Jay, seeing how Friday is my game day.

Awesome, now I just have to figure out how to officially get my game into Adepticon. Do I talk to Hank about that?

So, is this me? Just curious. I would love to attend again and help out. I had a blast last year doing it. I know that Jamie has asked for my help in the Team LotR event again also. Mainly just need to work out the logistics of travel, food and lodging.

Different John. I don't think you met John H. last year. He spent most of Adepticon playing WFB.

Did he agree to it? Lol, he was just telling me about it the other day.

This John, by the way.
