Thoughts on Necromunda tournament and demo

For everyone who attended the Necromunda demo and tournament, I'd like to thank you all. This was only the 3rd con I've ever attended and the first in which I ran either a tournie or a demo.

As some of you may know, I've been working on my Underhive terrain and table for close to 2 years now, off and on. Running these events finally gave me a reason to finish everything up and I was very happy with the results. I think the table looked very good and, most importantly, it was very functional as a teaching tool. After all the months of hard work, it was really satisfying to see how much everyone enjoyed themselves.

Special thanks to Anton (getupandgo) for loaning me his Goliath gang for the demo table Friday and to everyone on AWC who helped to play-test the first drafts of the special scenarios for the tournament itself.

I think everyone had a good time playing the tournament on Saturday and I really appreciate how enthusiatic everyone was with it. The spontaneous Showdown double tiebreaker was a stroke of genius on all the players' parts (I had not envisioned even one tie, let alone two).

I know there are several people who expressed interest in attending and couldn't because of scheduling conflicts with other tournaments. Hopefully, we can work around that for next year and give everyone who wants to attend a chance to do so. If you or someone you know, would like to attend next year's event, please feel free to contact me and let me know what other tournies you are thinking of playing in and I'll try to work with the Consul to schedule a good time for most everyone.

I will be back next year, hopefully with some more players (so no one has to play someone else 3 times!) and certainly with some new special scenarios.

Thanks also to everyone in the Consul for letting me host the Necromunda events this year. Special thanks to Jamie, who watched over the tables, kept players occupied while I finished my late Combat Patrol tournie, and helped when I thought I'd lost my ArmyTransport!

I absolutely loved the tournament. Very relaxed atmosphere - I did like the fact that the tournament was in the second room as it was easy to talk to you opponent. 3 great opponents too, and three of us brought the same gang. Helping out with the demos, I thought we would have gotten more interest if the demo table was in the main room, but as someone smartly pointed out, you would have had to shout to demo the game, so I think it makes sense for the demo tables to be in a second room. I guess better signage is all that is needed.

The missions were a lot of fun and added a good tactical element. Every loophole I tried to find was shot-down by Jeremy :wink: The terrain was great. The time to play each round was just about perfect. It would be great to have more people next year and potentially a longer tournament. I thought the inability to buy equipment was good because that would have taken a long time. Maybe modified skill tables as most of the skills I earned were useless, though I guess that happened to everyone. Not a lot of dead gangers too, only 3 dead (that I remember) out of the 4 gangs over 5 games each. I think most of just got lucky on our injury tables.

Overall, I had a great time and would definitely play again. Prize support was good too considering only 4 players were in the tournament. Thanks again Jeremy for organizing and running the tournament as well as making the terrain and for Rich's support of the specialist games.
