Question - Assembly/Paint Plastic Easterling Kataphracts

Postby Yakthor » Sun Feb 12, 2012 11:57 pm

Now that my Easterlings have plastic cavalry I have a question:

Do I:
1) Fully assemble them first, then paint the assembled model?
2) Paint the rider and the horse separately with
a) Glue them together after painting?
b) Place a hole in the mounts saddle and glue a pin the bottom of the rider to hold together for play and apart for transport?
c) Magnetize the rider and mount?

The only cavalry I've done in a long time has the been the heroes that come attached to the horse so the question was moot. What is the opinion of veterans of plastic cavalry assembly and painting?

Plastic kits normally have a tight fit between rider and mount, with a quality plastic glue there is no need to pin the two together. If the kit fits poorly, then pin and/or green stuff as needed.

Unless you are working on show case quality paint jobs, fully assemble the model. It will save time to have the model together when painting.

I've got my rider and mount seperate for painting, an will glue them together after. Of course I'm assembling the old metal models, but I'd do the same with plastic.

All my plastic Gondor and Dol Amroth knights I have done separate with pins in the bottom but that's for ease of storage (I have them in that big grey and blue plano tackle box)
