foam paint sealers

Postby BostonNazgul » Fri Jul 01, 2011 11:15 am

I am working on a large terrain project consisting of 90% core foam material. It will involve a lot of smaller, pointy detail work to be added on.

usually I just use foam for board or terrain bases and cover with sand/gravel and then seal the entire thing with a layer of mixed wood glue, textured paint, and water. so that a base spray paint coat wont melt the foam.

for this project I want to try to avoid brushing on a sealing layer.

does anyone know of spray products that can safely be used on foam to give me that sealing layer from spray paint?

You can by water-based black primer at Menards. I think Rust-Oleum is the brand, and it is called Aqua or something like that. It will not melt foam and once you have a layer down you can spray anything on top of it.

Airbrusing acrlic paints should work? Not sure if that is an option.

There are some cool products at Hot Foam Factory:

They even have a non-dissolving spray on glue.

I've had good luck airbrushing foam. It looks good and goes on thinner than any spray paint. It also lets you layer and shade while you spray.
