Scenario Report: Boromir's Redemption

Khamul’s head snapped around, and he let out a piercing scream. Easterling warriors shrank back from him.

“Lord, what is it?” asked Captain Tai-Shan.

Khamul stared at the captain from beneath his shadowed hood. “Someone has put on the Ring! A Halfling! Send out the scout teams immediately; find the Halflings!”

“It’s working!” cried Pippin happily. Easterling warriors in crimson robes and gold scale-mail were running and sliding down the leaf-covered slope towards the two hobbits.

Merry grabbed his friend’s arm. “I know it’s working; run!”

The Hobbits were much more nimble than their pursuers, but the Men moved with long strides and fanatical determination. Merry knew that there was no way they could outrun them.

A figure beckoned from behind a tree. “This way!” shouted Boromir. The Hobbits immediately ran towards him. Boromir had his sword in one hand and the horn of Gondor in the other. He blew three long blasts on the horn as he started to fall back from the Easterlings. “Help will be here soon,” he promised.

Borormir half-shielded, half dragged the Hobbits back towards a thick stand of trees. Easterlings encircled the grove like gleaming bronze sharks. Their swords were drawn, their shields were high, and the almond eyes behind their masks spoke of wariness mixed with mad faith.

Boromir wasn’t going to wait for them to encircle him completely. He lunged at the nearest Easterling, knocking aside the Man’s shield with his own before delivering an abdominal stab. Stepping past the falling Easterling, he delivered a chopping blow to another that left a bronze helmet clanging to the ground.

“Let’s help!” cried Merry. He scrabbled among the leaves, looking for a stone to throw. An Easterling warrior kicked at him, but he rolled away from the attack. Pippin stood up to throw a stone, and an Easterling struck him across the back of his head with a sword pommel. Pippin crashed to the ground, his stone falling from his hand.

Rough hands yanked Pippin up and tossed him across the saddle of an armored horse. The Easterling Kataphrakt laughed cruelly. He turned his horse away and galloped off.

Merry let out a wordless cry at the kidnapping of his friend. He lunged at the Easterlings with his sword, but the Men easily batted his attack away and slammed him to the ground with their shields. Borormir swung his sword with berserk rage and guilt, and two more Easterlings fell back in a wash of blood.

Merry was dragged through the forest. Boromir charged towards him, shouldering an Easterling archer aside. With a strong thrust, he ran through the Easterling dragging Merry.

“Boromir!” came Aragorn’s shout. “We’re commin’, lad!” called Gimli. Legolas was as silent as ever, but Boromir knew that he would be coming to.

Borormir of Gondor turned towards the remaining Easterlings. Sweat dripped from his brow, and his armor was spattered with blood, but he smiled. There was no way that these few Men could hope to defeat the heroes of the Fellowship in close combat.

Borormir’s breath suddenly began to fog. His skin grew clammy and tight. The forest birds ceased their song. A man-sized shadow detached itself from the greater shadow of a huge oak tree. The shadow drew an ancient corroded sword with the sound of scraping metal. It took one step towards him, its armored foot burning away the grass with cold, invisible fire where it stepped.

“Boromir” it whispered to him across the glade. “Your time is ended.”

On the shadow’s gauntleted hand gleamed a bronze ring with a red gem. The gem shone with inner fire like a burning eye. Borormir felt weakness crawling through his muscles as he confronted the Ringwraith.

To be continued???

That's a lead-in for the next scenario, like the three question marks at the end.

So, you want to play the next scenario?

Sure. When to we get to play the Pippin rescue mission? I want to spare the poor hobbit from being violated.

As far as I know, that scenario is in the Two Towers journeybook.
