Eastern Kingdoms List - 600pt

Postby Spectrar Ghost » Fri Feb 10, 2012 2:40 pm

Here's a first shot at a 600 point Easterling list. I already own the Eastern Invaders Battlehost, so I'm trying to fit the army to that box. This list means I really only need to get Amdur - I have a metal Captain with Halberd, and enough Warriors to paint a Bow and a Shield up as Captains. For now I don't own any Mongols, er, Khandish, so I'm stearing clear of them, though the horse archers do look like fun. Those and the plastic Kataphrakts can wait.

Amdur, Lord of Blades (Armored Horse) - 115
5 Kataphrakts - 70

Easterling Captain (Bow) - 50
12 Easterling Warriors (Bow) - 96

Easterling Captain (Halberd) - 50
12 Easterling Warriors (Shield) - 96

Easterling Captain (Shield) - 50
4 Easterling Warriors (Shield) - 32
8 Easterling Warriors (Shield, Pike) - 72

599 points
41 Models
9 Might

C&C greatly appreciated.

Other than the heroes your force lacks much in the way of FV 4 and you have no armour cracking ability. Having just played against a mixed Easterling and Khandish force I can assure you that armour penetration is a necessity. My Gondorians took a massive beating at the hands of Amdur and his cavalry, but only because he had some FV 4 assistance to help counter my Citadel and Fountain Court Guards. Have you considered finding the ten (?) Points to upgrade those Kataphracts to Black Dragons? FV 4 cavalry is a nice feature.

In the game I played tonight it was the heroes that did the majority of the damage as they were the only ones with strength 4. I had to use trapping manuevers with my infantry captains, whereas Steve's force relied on cavalry bonuses to accomplish the same effect. Amdur on a horse is a dangerous critter.

Black Dragons and Amdur's banner is a nice combo.

Looks like I'd have to drop a pike, so what about this?

Amdur, Lord of Blades (Armored Horse) - 115
5 Kataphrakts (Dlack Dragons) - 80

Easterling Captain (Bow) - 50
12 Easterling Warriors (Bow) - 96

Easterling Captain (Halberd) - 50
12 Easterling Warriors (Shield) - 96

Easterling Captain (Shield) - 50
4 Easterling Warriors (Shield) - 32
7 Easterling Warriors (Shield, Pike) - 63

600 points
40 Models
9 Might

How much will dropping a pike from the block affect it's effectiveness?

In my opinion pikes are best used to support heroes. So no effect in my opinion.

Agreed. That force looks fine. Amdur will have to bide his time until the melee begins, before he goes charging in, as his force is not strong enough to survive long on its own.

Cheers,

Yep, that's more or less what I discovered. The pikes and blades were excellent, the archers not so much, and the cavalry (and Amdur) very effictive while it lasted. All told the Recconoitre went 4-3 against me, with myself getting a single Kataphrakt off the board, but breaking the dwarves and wounding Gimli, and him only killing Amdur, but coming within one turn of getting a few models off the board.

After some discussion in BdS's Eastern Kingdoms thread, I've rejiggered my list a bit. Not sure if it's a positive change, but that's what playtesting's for right?

Dropped three archers.
Replaced two pike/shields with shields.
Gave front rank of Warband 4 Black Dragon.
Added a war drum to the Kataphrakts.

Warband 1
Amdur, Lord of Blades (Armored Horse) - 115
4 Kataphrakts (Black Dragon) -64
1 Kataphrakt (Black Dragon, War Drum) - 31

Warband 2
Easterling Captain (Bow) - 50
9 Easterling Warriors (Bow) - 72

Warband 3
Easterling Captain (Halberd) - 50
8 Easterling Warriors (Shield) - 64

Warband 4
Easterling Captain (Shield) - 50
5 Easterling Warriors (Shield, Black Dragon) - 50
6 Easterling Warriors (Shield, Pike) - 54

600 points
37 Models
9 Might

Four captains is a nice feature. That's a small number of archers for my tastes and I have no faith in phalanxes.

I'm a bit concerned about the archers as well - one loss and I lose the ability to volley fire. As to the Phalanx, I hear your concerns. I'm not sure I agree, but as I get more games in I'll be able to determine myself. I played out a couple combats of that Warband against equal points Elves last night and the results were encouraging, though I'm aware that with larger forces with more combined arms things could have went differently.

We shall see.
