Ah Gary, if only the rules allowed such a thing...

I assume you mean that easterlings can't ally with Dol Guldor? What are you bringing in the Dol Guldor force that is really necessary? I don't have my books in front of me, but can you get the Black Guard from a different army list?

Hi Tim,

I dumped the BN's to make this a pure DG force, since it seemed like the defensive aspect of the BN's was pooh-poohed. Dol Guldur does not have troops mounted on Wargs. I will probably have some unmounted Wargs in the rear as breakthrough troops because they are cheapish.

Let me paint a few more models and I will tell you if I come up with anything smart.

No, Gary, I mean that any allied force has to conform to the 1/3 archer rule, so if I bring in 10 Easterling archers, I have to bring in 20 other Easterling warriors, and then I might as well just bring an Easterling Army! :wink:

Why not take an Easterling contingent? Take 20 warriors with shields, a captain with bow and shield, and ten archers. You have plenty of points left for your Black Guard and captain, enough spear armed orcs to cover all of your main line fighters and still have 75 or so points for other models. This gives you your Black Guard, a defence 6 front line, better archery, and spear support for all front line troops. Your archers also become def 5 which is much better against str 2 bows.

Dol Guldor (300 points)
1 Black Guard Captain
20 Black Guards of Barad-dûr

Easterlings (396 points)
1 Easterling Captain with easterling halberd and bow
24 Easterling Warriors with shield and spear
12 Easterling Warriors with bow

Points = 696
Models = 58
Might = 2
Archers = 13 (using real bows)

FV4 S5 Black Guard with D6 spear support and the ability to stack up three deep to boot is just plain unpleasant. Leadership is a bit lacking, but the Black Guard Captain is decent in combat and with two spears behind him has 4 FV5 S5 attacks which ranks up there in obscene with the likes of Aragorn (with Anduriel), Dain and Gilgalad for the cost of 90 points in models.

Hmmm... too bad I don't have any Easterling Halberdiers painted, though I finally have a reason to do so. :twisted:

So that is actually a pretty scary looking army.
