"Value" of the Boxed Set

Postby BrentS » Sat Nov 24, 2012 1:34 pm

So I've been trying to figure out the "value" of the components in the boxed set. I'm doing this mostly to try and set what I think would be a reasonable price for each of the components. Here's my first crack, I'd be curious what you think.

18 Goblins -$35 (that's easy as they are sold that way)
18 Goblins -$35
1 Goblin King and Throne - $20 (half the price of the mordor troll kit)
3 Goblin Captains (Grinna, short one, scribe) -$15
Thorins Company (13 dwarves, Bilbo, Gandalf) - $45
Goblin Town Scenery - $60
Mini Rule book - $20
Radagast - $10 (based on price difference on Limited Edition and Regular Edition)
I left the dice, ruler and get started pamphlet as they don't really contribute in my opinion.

Does this seem like a reasonable break down? I was sort of guessing for all the heroes.

Looks like you're under-estimating based upon current prices in some areas (I'd put the Radagast, which I'm pretty sure is Finecast, at around $20 ordinarily). The Goblin Captains are really only two - it looks like the Goblin Scribe is really a terrain piece (he's hanging in a crane thingee), but at $15 for a Finecast that's still a good deal.

And if you don't want to either buy or carry around the $85 coffee table book for rules, then those rules are a great value!

I'm sure I'm under-estimating some. However, none of these are Finecast. All the models mentioned are plastic.

I'd say Rad is worth 20-25
the mini is 25-30

I can't imagine a limited edition model being plastic. I know the cost of molds has come down, but that still just doesn't make sense.

Yep, similar to the limited edition Chaplain that came with the Dark Vengeance Box set.

Wow. I didn't realize the chaplain was plastic as well. Color me shocked!
