I love the description that Jeremy gives above for a team event, if thats the format this year..cool, that sounds like it will cover the bases.

I always look at these things as a self fulfilling prophecy, aim low, you get low, so aim high but manage your expectations. 2011 indeed, was a bad year, GW had not released anything in long time, and still was managing the events nationally. There was a ton of competition gamewise as well, (WFB hadnt had its 8th ed exodus yet)
I didn't play LotR that year (and helped out as the ringer in singles because of my own over commitments) since then things have changed alot, GW's hands off approach to events isn't a bad thing, their total lack of support could actually be a positive if they keep putting out models, and they will be in lieu of the new movies.

Its been a bit of roller coaster ride with LOTR attendance over the last 5 years. When we peaked at 40 players (20 teams), we all thought we were building a sustaning model... however, with the addition of the singles event and then the drop off GW support for LOTR (no new models/rules), interest gradually wanned. Last year, when space was an an all-time premium, we made the conscious decision to request fewer spots. We were fully prepared to add more spots as the events filled up (we did this for the singles event). However, we just got to 10 teams as it turns out ... after 7 teams in 2011. By scheduleding the TT on Friday, space won't be as much as an issue.

old coast wrote:I get the history of Acon and its TT It just seems to me with Tim moving on from GitD..and the TT always struggling there is room for a spring event like BBB at Adepticon, with Jamies post above looks like you guys are busy all weekend, I just wonder that with the "red headed step child" stigma of the game if there isn't wisdom to just putting all your eggs in one basket with a traditional championship singles event Friday and thats it, it saves you guys alot of work , accomplishes what Jamie suggests, ( in that it appeals to both hard core and casual players since the new rules have made 30 a valid model count as opposed to Legions where model counts below 50 were often seen as uncompetitive) and doesnt leave people feeling like that things are moving backward and not forward.

We talked about that but LOTR at Adepticon has always been a team event. That's what made Adeptiocn so unique. I know that Jamie always tries to help make "matches" for those players that need teammates.

old coast wrote:This TT structure sounds cool, so I am sure it will be fine, I am just lamenting as when I first saw the event page, Thursday night this year is iffy for me and I dont have time to do a traditional team army from scratch after going and finding a partner, since I cant even get a guarantee of table space or real event status for Pirates (which is expected since we totally dropped the ball on it last year) I was thinking I wont even be making to Adepticon for the first time since 2007  Specialist games in general are taking it on the chin in lieu of the popularity of more mainstream non GW games.

This is the format that was used the very first year in the team tournament. There are only a few of us that are around that played in this event (myself, Frank Brown, Josh Leong, Drew Stuart, and Keith Hruska). It was fun and by going back to this format, it accomplishes a lot of what the Singles event would do (1 on 1 play).

old coast wrote:Anyway, I'm free on Saturday if you guys need help with a Demo table hit me up...the only other thing I am interested in is trying some Bolt Action and those events aren't even posted yet. I'll try to free myself up Wed/ Thurs to help set up or even play in the MtMD, just dont know yet.

I know we are actively looking for help to man the demo table(s).

Unfortunately, for my own personal schedule, I can't attend any of the Saturday or Sunday Adepticon events. I've got family commitments the rest of the weekend.

I truly love the idea of having both good and evil for the team tournament. I think it will be a fantastic event. I am already writing lists (yes as of now they have more than 9 models). Digging up themes for both good and evil. Dreaming of display boards. Visions of sugar plums dance through my head.

I am anxious to see if we get a big turn out for the team tournament again.

@John with your title, (and it will never go away the last LOTR Adepticon Singles Champion) and your soft scoring ability, you shouldn't have a problem finding a partner.

Hey Guys,

I thought I'd throw in my opinion. I was hoping there would be a singles tournament, but would be happy to play in the March to Mount Doom event on Thursday. The only thing that holds me back is the price. $20 for a single elimination event seems kinda steep when I compare it to other events - take the Warhammer fantasy 1k event that same day for $15 and 3 guaranteed games. What sort of prize support is involved to encourage me to take the extra risk of a potentially short event for a new guy to LoTR like me? I suppose if I feel like that others may who won't voice an opinion, do with it as you will.

Again, the web cart is NOT accurate. Wait until the Cart goes live to pass judgement. I do not expect this event to be $20.

I myself do not know what is accurate or not in the cart other than the LotR events (i.e. I'm wondering if the listing of a FOW Team Event is accurate). The Mount Doom will NOT be $20 for the exact reason you state. I don't want to name the price until it is "official" but it should be appropriate to the single elimination format. The Team event should stay as it was last year (I think $30 for the team?).

Thanks,

Jamie

If the Singles format and description have been worked out - send it my way (info@adepticon.org) so I can get in the cart before Monday! Everything else should be good to go.

Well I'm not going to be able to do Adepticon this year either. Having to replace my car was bad enough, but our furnace dying and the associated replacement costs kills any chance of me travelling to any event anytime soon.
