Thanks for posting this, Brent. This clears up our Great Beast questions. Sad to say, of course, that my meticulously thought out opinion is trash now ; D
Glorfindel has terror back (hurray!), Isengard has and Uruk-hai drummer, and Gildor's special rule now makes more sense.

Interesting stuff!

Well they did errata the beast's rules. So your opinion may have been valid at the time of the original wording. It does bring into question how much playtesting they really do on these new models for versions 1.0.

I will be working this weekend on LotR file updates for Army Builder for those that use the tool.

Hey all, the updates for "The Hobbit" rules manual and all the LotR Sourcebooks are now available at the link above.

Some juicy takeaways:

Rivendell Knights, when led by Elrond, Lindir, or the Rivendell Knight Captain do not count towards your force bow limit.

Riders of Rohan do not count towards your force bow limit.

Easerling Warriors (from the Easterling list) have a bow limit of 50%

This looks to me like the rules are trying to compensate for the new -1 penalty for moving an shooting. They are also accommodating the mandatory bows for the cavalry listed above and probably trying to help out Easterlings and Rohan from a competitive standpoint.
Shooting is a tricky thing to pull off these days though, so only time will tell how much these new tools will help, especially with the majority of the affected models hitting on a 5+ if they move.

At 1000 points you can have a very robust all mounted Rohirrim force Brent. :-P

So, I haven't updated the AB files, mainly due to time but also some possible legal issues I have been partially involved with on the 40k side. Assuming those get worked out, I will be again working on the AB files to update for the FAQ and hobbit updates. Just need to buy the new Rulebooks first. Looks like I will be very busy.

Yep... of course they shoot no better than Orcs do now.

Only when they move. Orcs on wargs hit on 6s.
Throwing spears have an 8" range. So you can sit outside infantry charge range and chuck spears.
Axes are a common weapon on Rohirrim. Strength 6 cavalry is not nice. Add in the Red Shield upgrade and you're FV 4 as well. Outriders still hit on a 4+ when moving so leapfrog tactics will still work.

Besides you now have three times as many bows. Who cares if you only hit 1/3rd of the times.

Too many pessimists in this game I tell you.
