Interest in SAGA?

I have been reading SAGA and wanted to gauge others interest in this Dark Age Skirmish game-

It doesn't take too much to get a warband going.
Could even run it as a mini tournament if there was enough interest.

I have had some questions on SAGA and how it plays-
It is a skirmish game set in the Dark Ages owned by Gripping Beast, though it seems to be expanding- Japan seems a large possibility-
anyway-

I am thinking a small tournament-
maybe something along the lines of Humphries wonderful Pirate clash last year.

Think about scheduling with the other offerings here...
Must all things on this forum be GW related?

Feel free to post on any subject - we are not limited to GW games.

With any luck, John will be back in 2013 with his High Seas event. We'll just need to schedule the two games into separate time slots.

I'm looking at getting the rules also to try it out.

I've also seen someone adapt the rules for use with Greeks.

Not Interested. Although I may be somewhat critical, SAGA plays more like a Fantasy/Magic style skirmish game (not unlike GW's Lord or the Rings) than a historical wargame. Not to say that there is not a tactical aspect to the game, there is, but the 'high-epic' style does not appeal to me. The rules are well-written and the play style is fairly quick, once you pick up the rules, but in my opinion it is only loosely based on history and is much more based on mythology and folklore. I would not refer to this rule set as a 'historical game', even on a skirmish scale. After checking out a couple of demo games, I am glad I did not pick it up when it first came out. I may buy it sometime in the future, but only to play the 'mythological' aspect of the game (beer with friends), not with my hard-core historical buddies. :D

I initially had some reservations on SAGA as well but after playing a few games I changed my mind. I think that it is just as historical as any "historical war game" in that it is a game with historical factions. It is a lot of fun to play and has gotten our group back into playing 25mm ancient/medieval et al. In our area, Peoria IL. it is gaining strength and is already pretty strong in Springfield IL. I really hope that some sort of tourney will be at Adepticon in 2013. It does not require much space or a lot of terrain, but nice terrain, and depending on war band size and the scenario can be played in 90 minutes.

Greetings...yes, have been playing SAGA since it came out...also a PigWars player...but SAGA is quicker and the evil dice & board can betray the best...but great fun and enjoy it much...havent been back up to JustForFun to play...but play here in Springfield...glad to hear that there will be a tournament at Adepticon...have a modular board (4x4) plus a lot of terrain...
Regards

probably be a 4 point tourney with 90 minute rounds. Players will be allowed to bring a 6 point list and field 4 points per game. Check in time will most likely be 30 minutes after the WAB Singles end.

Hopefully boards will be near WAB so I can play WAB and set up at the same time!

Hey, by the way I just wanted you guys to know I played several more games (rather reluctantly in the beginning) and have completely changed my mind in regards to SAGA. The demo games I first played after the initial release appeared to have been 'fast and loose' with the SAGA rules, which I revisited with some experienced gamers, who had the rules down cold, at the recent SoCal Smackdown. I now think not only is it a good game, it would be pretty good (fun and fast) for a tournament setting. I was so turned around on it that I bought both books (SAGA rules and Northern Fury Supplement) on the spot. I think you might want to take a look at it.

I am going to miss all you guys this year, but I will be back in 2014. :D
