Sean, most of the guys I play FOW with at Chicagoland Games on Thursdays, also play Ancients. We've been talking about doing some Hail Caesar stuff lately.

Sean, I think the people I'm reaching out to are the same ones Jeremy is referring to. They used to play at Black Sun games before it closed.

We are now at Chicagoland Gamers (Dice Dojo)
Located on Broadway, just South of Bryn Mawr in Chicago
Generally we get together on Thursday nites
I recently have done some FoG, and Hail Caesar
Generally we are doing FoW
Join us 4:30 PM - closing

One of the 'joys' of ancient gaming is sorting out scale, period and rule set. Every gaming group seems to have a different mix of these three elements. To bring this back to Adepticon - we've played 28mm with WAB up to the late medieval. HC has the benefit of being very forgiving when it comes to unit composition and easy to switch between 15mm and 28mm. I'm looking to put HC on the schedule for next year - just need to find a good time for the event.

Which Mark is working with Mike oon the Team game?

The sooner we pick a period, the sooner I know if I am expanding my Goths as Foederati, or if I am painting the Huscarls I won at Adepticon this year!

We tend to have the most momentum before Summer hits!

Hello,
I will start a "Big Game" thread this weekend, been swamped with work and school. Game will be Dark Ages England (up to 1066, but more on that coming), there will be a Bridge, a Ridge, and more than likely a keep involved.

AoA 2 lists only (sorry...)

They are tons of figures, both expensive and not, available for this time period. Lots of details coming...

Looking at the following AoA2 lists being fair game (more on sides, etc. coming...):
Dark Age Britain and Ireland (loads of options here...)
Viking
Norman and Breton
Later Saxons
Later Irish

Please provide feedback on list inclusions... Intent is to keep the big game in period but allow some license... And no, a Junk dropping off a load of Samurai is not gonna work (but would make a great movie  )

OK- so not my Goths or early Saxons-

Looks like I am painting my Huscarls unit-
maybe some Jomsvikings I am doing for SAGA and some Scots- use the later Saxon list for an Anglo-Danish Northumbrian/Scotland list....just max out on allied Danes....

I do not have my book here (at work), if a list makes sense to add, please LMK and discuss. I think you can flavor out the lists a lot and with Dark Age Britain/Ireland you may still use your early Saxons... No medieval lists.

Cliff version synopsis: England is able to mobilize to meet the Viking and Norman Invasions and scours the Isles for allies (thus the Dark-Age and Irish lists). Invaders would be Normans and Vikings (this is where another list might make sense, although seems Goths might be a stretch as IIRC they fought more in the East...but I could be out to lunch). Viking Scum can be on either side as they tended to go for the booty anyway.

I am also planning on running a big game...I was thinking Chariot Wars. Too many games from too many periods seems to produce a logistical issue with many players. How do they get/build/paint an army for each event to Adepticon? There is also an issue about scheduling time(s) for each event. I really like Mike's 1066 idea, as it has a narrow time frame and limited army lists.

I will leave it up to the group, I will be more than willing to run a Friday Chariot Wars big battle, in the opposite time block from Mike, say in the morning if he would like the evening, but perchance I should coordinate with Mike and maybe another event that corresponds (possibly as a prequel) to his evening event, such as a Viking boat raiding scenario? So people can work on armies for it and not feel pulled in several directions. It really comes down to the point that I really enjoy playing, so I will do whatever. :D

We'll have to see how the schedule sorts it's self out, but I was thinking of 3 slots: Thursday night, Friday am and Friday pm. Saturday night is available, but everyone seemed to be burned out by the Singles tournament during the day. But it might be a good time slot if people wanted to do some outreach to the general convention population. Thursday night worked well for Merle and the Old West game. It would be an attractive slot for an "all figures supplied" type of game & should draw well from all attendees. Friday morning I may squeeze in a 2 round Hail Caesar tournament - which might compete for players with an other big game - not sure how that would work.

The Crusades game worked well because most of the players were within driving distance of the convention - bringing extra figures was not a huge effort. The Crusades group was also in email contact through out the year. Pat, you may want to find a few interested parties to help set up a Chariot Wars game.

Rich
Have you had anymore thoughts on you big game theme?

I talked with Mark and we are leaning toward Saturday evening, depending on what other historical choices there are then.

Still stuck here at Fort Lewis with little or no internet. I will get hot on my "Big Game" duties when I return the weekend of July 6th... BTE first day off I have had in 30 days. Feel like I got released from a Roman Galley.

Different question, do we have dates for 2013 yet? I would love to know to see if I have to un-intercourse my schedule.

Dates for Adepticon 2013 have been announced.
AdeptiCon 2013 will be held on April 18th – 21st, 2013 at the Westin Lombard Yorktown Center and we will have the entire property, Harry Caray’s included, all weekend long!

4 full days this time. If we run major events, will people come in Thursday morning? We might need additional volunteers to step up for Thursday - I'll need help to pull off this extra day.

August is here and it's time to get serious about this year's event list for Ancients. We had a number of people volunteer after Adepticon to run events. If you are still interested, please confirm your event details with me. If you are a new volunteer, please post here or email me at richard1nelson at hotmail dot com with the details of what sort of event you would like to run.

Event list 2013
Doubles Tournament- rules: WAB or CoE Judge: Matt time slot: Sunday
Singles Tournament- rules: WAB Judge: TBD time slot: Saturday
OR
Hail Caesar round robin - rule: HC Judge: Rich time slot: Saturday
Dark Age big game- rules: WAB Judge: Mike B time slot: Friday pm
Saga tournament- rules: Saga Judge: Aaron L time slot: TBD (Saturday pm)

Thursday will be available for gaming again this year. I would like to see if we could get a number of Big Battle games (like Mike's Dark Age game), or walk up demo games to fill the time slots.
