Wow, that's a very dynamic action packed Codex cover! The DA might prove to be even more frustrating than they already are with their stormshield spam. That front Termie on the White Dwarf looks to have a flail, which is cool that something besides a Hellbrute will have a flail weapon. The other Termies look to have Power Mauls, I like the old morgenstern aesthetic....if they can take those over thunder hammers it could be nasty.

Hah haha hahah hahahahah

Seriously? Because what land speeders really needed was an awkward looking pintle stuck on the front and a chapel attached to the rear for improved aerodynamic handling.

Here we go with terrible GW ideas...

Model thoughts:

UGH. Ugh. Bad. Poses are too, too static, especially with all of the characters and a couple of the Deathwing [Knights]. Those legs/feet orientations...c'mon! There are SO many better ways to pose those marines, as they've shown for the past 20 years. Even the static poses of 2nd edition models when technology was much more limited were more dynamic than this crap! Awkward angles on the feet, bland standing still presentation...ugh.

And the vehicles? That landspeeder is utter trash. It's supposed to be a fast-moving scout/recon vehicle, and not have balcony on the front for a guy to be standing in, or an altar that requires the thing to be moving slow on. It'd better have good rules/fluff, and I'll still never use it. UGH.

That flyer...I think they meant this one: Link. Which...isn't available from FW anymore. And a flying altar on the other one too? This is getting out of hand.

On the other hand, I am LOVING the maces/flails and bikes! Those are looking like twin-linked plasma guns for special bikers...exciting stuff.

Rating: 2/5

Fluff thoughts:

Deathwing Knights?? Ravenwing Black Knights?? Jeez, I know they're trying to push the new BL fluff/make armies unique, but seriously it ain't all it's cracked up to be. Deathwing/Ravenwing is unique enough as it is! Unnecessary change, in my opinion. They went along just fine without changing their names for the past 25 years, but I said the same about the Chaos Dreadnought. I'll never say Helbrute, and I'll never say these guys are knights.

Rating: 1/5

Not looking forward to the release. Maybe if it weren't so tonka toy-looking, I'd be more impressed...

I'm glad that they have models for the master of the deathwing and ravenwing. But the models look like they belong in a church choir rather than on the battlefield.

And a three-man land speeder? What happened? Two can't crew a land speeder anymore? That's expected if the imperial guard had land speeders, but not space marines. It looks like a church on wings.

And for those who play imperial guard and dream of a lightning fighter then get the dark angels version and turn it into an imperial guard flyer.

Basically, I'll stick to necrons, blood angels, and chaos.
After a three year hiatus...I'm back.

I like the new models. I like most all of them. I don't think I could ever paint the bone color, however. Mike Wood got all my DA from the Dark Vengeance kit. I got stuck with Chaos. Lucky him.

I think the new speeder is less of a fast moving recon vehicle and more of their version of a speeder tank. I like what looks like a twin-linked plasmacannon. Though the game play of that doesn't thrill the competitive side of me, I like the look of it.

At least it's twin-linked, given how overheats actually affect 2HP vehicles now. On the other hand, with 2HP and AV10 (I expect, anyway) are landspeeders really worth using these days?

The poses on plastic infantry figures don't bother me - you can always tweak them.

Yeah, well DA have never been the "competitive" choice for marines. They're there for people who like the super-gothic chapel-on-a-tank marines. The best thing that could happen for them is for this book to not be written by Jervis.

I am curious to see that new flyer and what it can do. Those little Space Marine Storm Talons? can pack a whallop vs other flyers with their assault cannons if they rend.
Probably be something like those. I wish the Heldrake had BS4.

I actually like most of the models with the exception of the new speeder. Just doesn't look very "Speederish". I love the aquilla flyer thing though, and the terminators are pretty cool. They'll look good in my silver and red dark angels scheme!

Cheers,

i'm liking the bikes and terms, can deal with the characters(convert/repose practice), even the flier. but that speeder better have some killer rules for looking so goofy.

Lots of negativity about the models coming from people but I freaking stoked. The idea of Dark Shrouds protecting my Ravenwing units as they advance so they can dump Deathwing on people's heads is too cool. I may never be a top rung play but when all this new stuff is resplendent in my Angels of Absolution color scheme it'll look awesome on the table top.

Also, the fighters strafing the crap out of stuff... Man, I can't wait to eventually paint two as escorts for my Caestus Assault Ram that I started working on a year ago. As a 16 year Dark Angels super fan I'm pumped.
