Recruitment

This is currently mostly a placeholder; I'll go into more detail after the 4th of July parade...

Thinking of means of recruitment. I'm currently lofting the idea of having 3 1k armies (IG, SM, Orks) available at the Bunker, along with terrain for a 4'x4' table.

More later; time for work.

First the scenario. It's a slightly modified GT, to allow players to start to think in terms of objectives, and to begin to familiarize them with the VC system.

Armies - 1000pt (see following post)

Table - 120cm x 120cm

Terrain - GT standard 25% coverage.

Objectives - One objective at center of board, one player placed objective each. These will either be placed as a 'Blitz' objective, or placed within 30cm of the player's board edge

Deployment - 15cm deployment zone along the player's board edge.

Victory conditions - Loosely the same, but modified for reduced objective count.
Blitz - Take objective on the opposite side of board
Take and Hold - Control both the central objective and the objective on the opposite side of the board.
They Shall Not Pass - As GT.
Defend the Flag - Control both the Central objective and the objective on own side of board.
Break Their Spirit - As GT.

Winning the game - The game lasts three turns. The player with more VCs wins. If both players have the same number of VCs, count Victory Points as in the GT scenario.

Now the armies.

I'm looking for several things in these armies. First is a spread of different unit types and roles. Second is a focus on Section One of the rulebook. By this I mean there should be no War Engines, Aircraft, or Characters, and no Macro-Weapons, AA fire, or Supreme Commanders.

The Orks.

Big Warband with 2 extra Boyz and 2 extra Grots - 400

Big Kult of Speed with 8 Warbikes, 6 Buggies, and 2 Skorchas - 350

Big Blitz Brigade with 8 Gunwagonz - 250


IG.

Infantry Company with Fire Suppot Platoon - 350

Artillery Battery with Basiliasks - 250

Tank Platoon with 6 Leman Russes - 400
The Platoon is a bit of a stretch (it's not in the Steel Legion list), but Russes are so iconic for the Guard that they need to be in there somewhere.


Space Marines

Tactical Detachment with Rhinos - 300

Tactical Detachment with Rhinos - 300

Devestator Detachment with Rhinos - 250

Assault Detachment - 175

Adds to 1025, but the ability to show a full Battle Company in a starter game isn't something to be passed up.

Any thoughts? Will it be appealing? What about the balance between the armies?

never mind. didn't see the no characters things. Technically though the IG will have a character in their commissar unless you just ignore it. I'm willing to dedicate my smurfs to it. If we do end up adding characters for later, beef up the points to 1200 and we can add a couple more additions to the armies.

Yeah, no commisars. If you could dedicate, say, 5th company with transports, that'd be awesome.

I can do the Guard. Chad, can you do the Orks? At some point we need to make sure the armies balance against each other well.

I think I can supply the orks as well, though I'd need to sort through and then paint em.

I have to double check with Dan later this week, but my thought is to get these armies into the display cases at the Bunker for as long as possible, as part of a wider effort to promote the Specialist Games. Is that OK with you?

That'd be fine, Chad. Unless you've done so, I need to run the idea of taking up display cabinet space by Dan, and we'll be mostly good to go. Still need some generic terrain and maybe info flyers with useful resources, but otherwise all set.

We then have:

Nat - Guard
Rob - Marines
Chad - Orks

I appreciate the offer on the Orks, Rob, but Chad's are painted and ready.

Now to look into creating some usable datasheets for the armies. MS Publisher, my old nemesis, here I come.
