Assault vehicles (CSM Terminator/Land Raider setup)

So I get that a unit can assault during the same turn they disembark from an assault vehicle. I mostly want to make sure I'm understanding the distances correctly. Here's an example of what I'm looking to do:

CSM Terminators take a Land Raider as a dedicated transport, so turn 1, the LR moves 12" at cruising speed and then moves flat out in the subsequent shooting phase another 6". In turn 2, the LR moves another 6" and the terminators then disembark and they move within 6" of the access point. They can then shoot their combi bolters and due to their relentless special rule and the assault vehicle special rule they can charge (theoretically up to 12").

Is that right? Just seems crazy that they can move essentially 30" before they shoot in turn 2, likely within rapid fire range, and then still charge.

Make sure to include a dirge caster n the Land Raider so those tricksy Tau can't Overwatch into you when you charge.

Yea, I was thinking about that (dirge caster) as well as potentially a dozer blade...think that's what it's called, don't have the codex with me at the moment.

Dozer blade allow rerolls on dangerous terrain checks.

if you're deploying 6 away from the land raider and then charging the dirge caster will be of no use

If the Land Raider Flats-Out in the Shooting phase then it might be able to reach Dirge Caster range to something. That sideways deployment then a 1st Turn pivot could also help gain an inch or two (haven't done the geometry calculation on that yet).

I also like having those Terminators be Khorne Termies for the Icon of Wrath...rerolling charge range is very very useful, not to mention the extra attack and +1 strength on the charge.
