Strength D and Wounding

If Strength D causes Instant Death, and Gargantuan Creatures are immune to Instant Death, shouldn't the Strength D cause D3 wounds on Gargantuan creatures?

D weapons:

"If the target is immune to Instant Death, then the Destroyer will cause one wound as normal."

G-creatures:

"All Gargantuan Creatures are immune to the Instant Death rule."

Gargantuan Creatures don't even suffer D3 wounds from D-weapons; they only suffer 1.

But Force Weapons and stuff like that causes D3 wounds don't they? Or is a Force Weapon different than Instant Death? I never use those.

Back when Apocalypse was written force weapons really were special in that they were the only weapon that could cause instant death without doubling a target's toughness. They stood alone as the only weapon that could potentially insta-gib a T6 monster. The GC rules were written with this in mind so that a 100 point Librarian can't force-kill a 666 point GC.

Since Apocalypse was published we've had the proliferation of things that sidestep instant death by specifying that the target model is "removed from play." We also have many more units that have Eternal Warrior. Presumably whatever rules we get for 6th edition will clear up the whole instant death mess.
